By Volunteering

Our team of volunteers are essential to the services we offer our clients.  They contribute their time to help out in the kitchen one morning a week, assisting our kitchen manager in preparing and serving meals as well as washing up and cleaning the kitchen.  In addition, they help clients with showers, our clothing service and in Literacy & Numeracy training sessions.  We also have volunteers who like to help us with fund-raising and they help out at our fund-raising events as well as co-ordinate their own activities.  If you have some time to offer and are interested in helping then we would ask you to consider the following before applying:

It may take at least two months from application, as we have to take up references as well as carry out a Criminals Record Bureau (CRB) check.

The type of jobs you may be asked to do may include:

Keeping the clothing store in order and handing out clothing - which involves some lifting and carrying
Cleaning duties - washing up, cleaning down a kitchen, wiping down tables, cleaning a shower cubicle
Preparing and serving food - which can mean working as a team in a warm kitchen

One of the most important things you can do is chat with our clients and make them feel welcome.

We would ask that you consider what morning you can offer if you would like to volunteer for the kitchen - we ask volunteers to arrive at 8.50am - 1pm each weekday (except Wednesdays when we close at 12noon).

By Donating Food, Clothing, Sleeping bags, etc

We are very fortunate in that the local community generously donates food, clothing, sleeping bags, rucksacks and other useful items to us throughout the year - we also receive all types of wonderful bread from the local farmers’ market and delicious organic pork from nearby Kenniford Farm and great frozen meals from Pipers Farm

If you’d like to help by donating items then please see our current Wish List by clicking here and please take note of our delivery times on our Home page.  Please note we cannot accept pillows, linen, duvets or items of furniture, however, we can advise of other organisations who may benefit from these items.

By making a Donation

You can make a one-off donation either by donating on-line, in person or by post. Supporters are always welcome and letters of support are a great encouragement. Please make cheques payable to: St Petrock’s (Exeter) Ltd.

Gifts in kind

These take many forms. We need food, especially tinned goods, tea, coffee, sugar, pasta and packaged groceries. Blankets, socks, shoes, clothes in good condition and sleeping bags are always welcome.

Churches

Why not hold a collection with your congregation for St Petrock’s? We can supply you with posters and leaflets to help raise awareness of our work here. A donation from your church will help us to make a difference.

Schools and Colleges

There are many ways that your school or university can support St Petrock’s with collections, fund-raising events (non uniform days etc.), RAG week and awareness raising sessions. Again, we can provide posters and leaflets and plenty of support.
